Excellent read
I've loved the conflicting opinions this morning. I've always stood on the side of the fence that says "I'll defend my life and those around me but please, by all mean, help yourself to my 9 year old TV". I don't mind claiming on my household insurance, it's life insurance I'd rather not have paid out.
Interestingly though, on similar lines to this, I'm a martial arts instructor and former heavyweight champion. If I was confronted, either in the house or elsewhere, I have to declare to the attackers that I am trained as such. A good friend of mine, when confronted by 4 such thugs warned them 3 times before they set about him. Of course, there was only 1 winner (he's a 4th dan - duh!) and he still got done for assault. Apparently, saying "come on then, bring it on" is provocative. I would add at this point, this was AFTER he'd warned them off 3 times.
What can I say - the law is an ass sometimes.
