How long have the playoffs been in existence now???

Surely it's time to lay to rest once and for all this mantra about how it's an injustice to the team finishing third.

Any Football League player under the age of 30 has probably not known it any other way - it's simple, if you want to go up automatically, you've got to finish in the top two (or three in the bottom division of course). Anything else from third to sixth is the playoffs, and always will be.
