I have both so I can test on both Android and iOS
I'd say the iPad is the better tablet as the screen is too small on the Nexus 7 to comfortably browse the web. I can't really see much advantage to a 7" tablet over a smartphone.
If you minaly want to read then the Nexus 7 is nicer to hold as its got a grippy surface and is much lighter. Its also a lot cheaper!
