Please explain to me why it's a foul if the ball hits your foot

if you have NO chance of getting away from it? Seems totally unfair. Surely should only be if it's deliberate.

You can lose a game because someone deliberately tries to hit it at your foot from six inches away and you give away a penalty corner.
