there is a difference between max speed for the service and what is quoted for a line

BT now give you a specific quote for your line based on a line test. They only use the up to value in ads.

Max for infinity is now 80, was 40 when I had it. I was quoted 20 on my line as the reliable speed and almost always got that and at off peak times with little contention got the full 40. As a homeworker at the time working with large spreadsheets stored on central servers, to 10 mbit upstream was great too.
