When I was a kid, Show Jumping (equestrianism) was one of TV's flagship sports

So much so that it was on in midweek pretty much all the time, and made instantly recognisable celebrities out of riders like David Broome and Harvey Smith, and a German whose name i only remember as Harvey Springtime (Hartwig Something, it was) and a posh bird called Anally Drummond-Hay.

IIRC, it all went west for the sport when the governing body began to demand more TV revenue, and the Beeb didn't want to stump up any more, so they took a punt on getting further behind their minority sport programme called Pot Black, and while the national appeal of toffs on posh ponies waned, snooker began to grow.

Now tidy your bedroom and get back down here by twelve for your lunch with your hands washed.
