Yes, it's a scam. Presumably you give them remote access to your PC so they can "fix it" and then they steal any personal details they can find or install spyware and/or viruses/trojans.

I got called a few years ago (here in Denmark). I have Macs so gave them the runaround for a bit asking how they got my number ("someone reported problem at that number") and who reported the problem ("someone" although they'd asked me to confirm my name to start with), who they were and where they were located ("Edinburgh" although was an Indian number and Indian accent. Of course, when I checked, company did not exist in any form any where so far as I could find). Finally I took pity on the poor sap and said it was all very interesting but also very strange as I had only Macs and the cheeky bastard hung up on me!
