Clare; re: Delia

I thought you saw the best in everyone!

Seriously, though, I don't doubt that Delia's determined and ambitious and it's perfectly possible that she can be difficult to work with and for - people very good at their profession often are in my experience (I am!). Her culinary expertise no doubt carried her a long way in related ventures too. And I would guess with the help of financial and legal advisors. However, that's a long way short of being a hard-nosed business woman in a field where she's not an expert. I think in this case the heart is ruling the head - Worthy's a mate*. I think her outburst against Man City shows how much her heart rules - the "snarl" that so many picked up on & disparaged was more to do with nervousness than anything else. I like her for that - plenty of other fans of other clubs would give their right arms to have someone who so transparently cares.

And the reason what she (& Michael of course) says carries so much weight is simple: it's her money! She saved the club! If in response to "results are bad; team's demoralised and without direction, etc. etc", she says, "well, maybe, but I like Nigel, we should give him a bit longer" then at the end of the day that's what goes.

That could all be hack-psychology on my part of course ...

* it occurs to me that similar happened at Middlesborough and their chairman *was* a hard-nosed businessman who couldn't bring himself to get rid of his mate, Robson.
