Well each to their own but if you follow it and understand what's

going on you would perhaps feel differently. Also, you have to appreciate just how much the TDF is part of the French way of life and when Henri Desgrange set it up he vowed that people would never have to pay to watch it. It's almost the sporting opposite of Premiership football in that the fans are part of the whole occasion and apart from the last kilometre there is not fencing to keep the fans away from the action. I've watched it live on some of the major climbs and the atmosphere is unbelievable. Like I say, each to their own but for me the TDF is the world's greatest sporting event and played out by the greatest sportsmen.
