I was actually thinking just the opposite - promote him! Create a 'director of football' role (with little actual responsibility) and bring in a new manager to deal with the day-to-day running of the first team. Give it a few months, and Worthington would probably walk.
Might be just a tad far-fetched/impractical/illegal mind!
