Without it England would have struggled to qualify for the QF's. He's also helped to shield the back four, something that has helped England conceed just three goals despite being deep, inviting pressure and only looking to play on the break.

I'm not a big fan of the tactics being used and it certainly isn't making any of our players look good in possession due to a lack of movement but England are getting results. Gerrard's performances have really been the difference between losing against France, drawing with Sweden and drawing last night. Maybe he hasn't been the most stylish player during Euro 2012 but he certainly has been more than efficient when you consider the tactical restraints.
