Pay for play is a bloody stupid idea

Players generally won't go for it and if they do it is an obvious source of friction. If you don't play such a player for tactical reasons/loss of form they don't get paid - how are they going to feel about that if they think they should be playing? Players generally don't like it if they aren't playing but at least they are still getting paid.
An alternative is to say they get paid as long as they are fit to play even if they don't, but then you'll just get them lying and covering up any injuries they may have.
