At Newcastle he had a good squad yes, but..

He took over with fans very much hating Ashley, lots of discontent amongst everyone at the club from top to bottom and he stabilised what could've very easily been a very rapidly sinking ship.

Same applies to Birmingham. Given their EURO Cup involvement he did very well to finish top 6 with them. Both Prem and Champs experience should mean he'll know a few lower league (or at least Champ) gems we can pick up too.
