I cringe every time I see 'he needs to put food on the table'
or 'he needs to pay the bills' within a conversation/debate about a professional footballer's wages/contract/future. I don't begrudge them earning whatever they can for themselves and their families - we all would if we could - but let's not go to the opposite extreme and feel sorry for them whenever they don't get that 5k per week extra pay or that one year extra on their contract - the fact is that they earn more in a year than most do in a lifetime.
