Let's face it Lambert and Holt have bottled it

The NCFC "project" (as AVB might call it) is unfinished but there is the potential for the wheels to come off next season. Lambert is young enough to stay with us for a few more years and then make the move to a top 6 club but it is a gamble that he is not prepared to take. Perhaps he has had a loss of nerve brought on by a difficult second half of the season.

In his game of snakes and ladders we have been a ladder for 3 years but the risk of us becoming a snake is too great for him. He has moved up a level to AV, where the risk of failure is less and if they become a snake he will just return to where he started.

Holt can see out his career at NCFC if he wants by consistently scoring 10-15 goals per season but he clearly isn't confident that he can do so and so wants the club to take the gamble and underwrite any drop in form or injury through an extended contract.

Shame really, because this lack of confidence/ambition will haunt them and probably prevent them from getting to where they want to be.
