Just A Thought About The Future

Did anyone see that piece in which Munby and Worthy were going to "sit down" and plan out "the next five years"?

That got me thinking, the phrase "the next five years".

Do you think it means that the club are not expecting, for whatever reason, to aim for immediate promotion next season? That, plus the very possible case of a wholesale change of players this summer makes me wonder if Worthy isn't half thinking of building up another squad that might look to (and heres the cliche!) "consolidate" next season, with the aim of going up in 2006-07, and, strength in depth and quality wise, have a good chance of staying there?

With lots of possible departures-not only now, and in the summer, but this time next year as well, it looks as if the squad is going to have to be rebuilt quite considerably over the next couple of years or so, especially in comparison with recent years. Perhaps promotion next year is an aim, but, long term, and, as with the cautious planning of the season just gone, its not considered essential and there is a contingency in place. Sunderland strike me as the perfect example, they came down, rebuilt the squad, and, this season, have gone up, a year "late" maybe, but with a good squad of players and, I think, a chance of staying put.

Just a thought.
