stayed with a guy who lives in a very poor part of Joburg
ex-offender, been thru awful stuff, has now completely turned hs life around.
Is a community worker and activist in a *really* tough and deprived area. In particular, he coaches a football team of grandmothers (the 'gogos').
Sounds ridiculous, but it's actually quite a big deal. A lot of them have to care for their grandkids, because the parents have died of AIDS. So it's a way of keeping them fit and active enough to be able to do so (and also giving them a break, and getting them together).
Anyway, this guy has basically nothing himself. But put me up and looked after me really well. While I was there I pretty much got him supporting the Norwich. (And in particular loving Grant Holt.)
Am determined to get him a hime shirt, for him to wear while coaching the gogos, and more generally around. (You see a few English footie shirts there, although knock-off ones I think.)
But have discovered there are none available. Club didn't order enough, and are now probably not ordering any more (new kit due next season).
So trying to get my hands on one. (size L).
