Cardinal slagging off gay marriage

Is it just me or is there something fundamentally contradictory in a bloke (wearing a frock) saying gay marriage deprives children of something when his own institution conspired to cover up child abuse over quite a lot of years? Not exactly speaking from a position of moral authority, is he?

I have a lot of sympathy with the Stonewall line, which is "if same-sex marriage concerns you, we strongly recommend you avoid marrying anyone of the same sex as you".

I'm straight but I never could understand why anyone would have a problem with anyone who isn't - I guess that's up to them, but what really pisses me off is bigots trying to pass off their bigotry as something else, when it so clearly isn't.
