He Was Supposed To Be The Next Big Thing For Leeds
Scored on his debut at 17, got a few more-earlier version of Chris Martin I guess.
Heard all about him at the time (1979) because we, for some reason, had Yorkshire TV instead of Anglia -yes, NW Norfolk coast, thats part of the Yorkshire region isn't it?-so got regional Yorkshire TV football every Sunday, Martin Tyler and all...plus Richard Whiteley and Calendar.
Lots of hype around Connor but he never lived up to it and played for a few clubs, half decent career of course, but not the stellar one everyone was predicting when he arrived on the scene.
And, for him to be a black player at Leeds in 1979, that was ground breaking in itself-wonder if he got stick?
Good luck to him-will make or break his coaching career but at least he has the balls to take the challenge on, unlike a few-Alan "too good for the Championship and a few Prem clubs, holding out for Man Utd or Arsenal to be honest" Curbishley.
