Have you cleaned the filter... ever?
I inherited two Dysons from parents, one from my mum the other from the missus', both of whom said they weren't working properly any more.
It turned out neither had ever washed out the foam filter that sits at the top of the cylinder, if they get full of dust they cuase the motor to over heat and trip out.
