Couldn't agree more. my partners been working while i've been unemployed and it's been a
struggle both financially and mentally.
I had been working continuously for 9 years since leaving uni so I was on contributions based JSA after being made redundant.
There were lots of things that I didn't qualify for because I wasn't on income based JSA. HAd I been sitting on the dole for years we would have been better off. But because I'd been working, we were now getting penalised. Fucking punished for working, bastards! I couldn't get funding for retraining because I was on contributions JSA but would have got it on income based.
My partner was also made redundant but found work within 3 weeks through a contact from her last job.
We were both desperate to get back into work and would have been much better if we had both stayed unemployed. If my partner hadn't got a job we would have got everything handed to us.
Ironically, if she was only working part time we would have still been better off than with her working full time.
For genuine people who have worked for years and suddnely are made rednudant it's a struggle. For those who have been unemployed for years, never wanting a job, happy to sit on the dole it's a f**kin holiday to them. THey think 'normal' people are mad for going to work. They have 5 staffies, alcohol and drug addictions, the latest trainers, tracksuits and phones, sky tv, they generally pop out a few kids cos that means more money.
