If you're going to buy one, I'd recommend NOD32
Just the anti-virus, not the internet security version. TVB is right about the extra stuff, but unless you're really PC illiterate, you probably don't need them. NOD32 seems to be the smallest install, least resource hungry of a decent ones. I'm sure AVG is fine too though.
