FAO phranin - re: Mourinho
1. Mourinho doesn't build legacies. He's a whirlwind who blows himself out after 3 or 4 years, so is constantly on the move, constantly re-inventing himself.
2. Man Utd have a history of glorious, attacking football. Not a history of relentless success: they've only had two golden eras as a club, even if the second has gone on and on and on. But when they were drifting a bit between 2003 and 2006, the fans weren't pissed off because they weren't winning everything - but because their football was dull. Can Mourinho produce the football United demand?
3. Since he left Porto, he's never joined a club who didn't have money to burn. That's because he'd be an idiot not to join the club who offer him the smallest odds of success. And in England now, and especially because of United's off-field position, that means Man City, not Man Utd.
4. Maybe most important of all: whoever replaces Fergie is onto a loser. An absolute, 100% loser. Who can possibly follow what he's done? Meaning I think a truly smart manager will sit it out, wait for Fergie's successor to fail and be binned, THEN take the job. It wouldn't surprise me if that's Mourinho's actual plan at all.
