BBC stepped right back in with huge offer-funding to both Uni's (like they need it) as part of the deal plus an agreement to make sure the sponsors logo is shown on screen as much as possible, even though BBC is non-commercial and, by the rules of its charter, shouldn't be doing such things.
Football is far too plebian for them and they want out, same with F1 which they got out of as far as their contract allowed tbem-only to subsequently discover (there is a great blog on this) that it would have been cheaper for them to see the existing one out! Red faces and condemation all round.
