why should he have got a call-up to the england squad?

if we're talking about form for the U21s, Bent scored more goals than Deano (or I think anyone else ever?) there. And in terms of club form, Bent is clearly on fire this season, whereas Ashton by his own admission has been struggling so far. Might have done more damage than good to have called him up at the moment.
