neighbour of mine had them installed couple of months back....

pro's....

they work just as well on a dull day than on a sunny day

pay back is estimated at about 7-10 years.

cons....

not so bad if they're on the rear side of the roof, but on his house they're on the front and look, well, a bit s**t!

I deal with this company that makes the machines that makes the wafered panels... www.dek.com
the guys there tell me each panel is only 17% efficient! The carbon footprint to actually make one is huge and it takes a bloody long time for the solar panel to "break even!"

In about 5 years time the technology to integrate solar wafering into actual roof tiles will be released, ie, houses built with black looking roof tiles that link together, similar to underfloor heating in a kitchen/conservatory.... therefore no need for odd looking "bolt-on" solutions!

me? prefer to wait till cost comes down, technology improves to make them more efficient, and they have less visual impact....
