It's difficult!

I came here a couple of years ago through work and the laywers said it will take up to 6 years to get my green card. 2 years for the initial application and then you're just in a queue waiting for a number to be issued. I also don't have a degree so just getting the original work visa was difficult enough. You can come here for up to 3 months on a visa waiver though, best bet would be to do that and then get married while you're here!! Seriously though - if you are coming here through work you have to justify why they can't hire someone local to do the job and what skillsets you have that make you unique, then as part of the green card application they advertise your role and then your company has to explain why any applicants are not suitable and why they still need you to be here. With a degree (or equivilant) it's much easier but without then expect a very long wait!
