24 months ago I suggested a three-line change to a big system which would make a 800% speed increase in certain operations, but would need a full system smoke test. Got told we didn't have the resources to test it, so it couldn't be released.
I evaluated the risks (large) and released it anyway under the cover of darkness.
Cojones.
They never figured out why the client stopped whining about response times until I owned up.
That's a brilliant story isn't it? I'll dine out on that.
