....the SPL decided to bring the season start forward a couple of weeks - Celtic had already signed up for a pre-season tournament (think it was in Ireland, but may be wrong) and refused to break it.
The SFA, being as good as run by Celtic and Rangers anyway acceded to Celtic's refusal and said every othe SPL club could have a week, any time throughout the season, to play a "high profile friendly"
That's my recollection and understanding
