es that they're wrong, and that capital punishment is uncivilised and beneath us.
Many of them don't learn, of course, but they do keep quiet about it for a while, until they get another opportunity to bring it up. Eventually they convince themselves that there's a groundswell of opinion behind them and that this time they might win the debate. So we get to this point - the right-wing press championing the cause.
So then we have to have the debate, again, they lose, again, and the cycle starts anew.
That's part of the price of democracy. Democracy means you do have to engage with the fruitcakes and wingnuts every now and again, no matter how much you don't want to.
