cheers Ralf - interesting read.......
....pretty well researched and quoted - er, apart from the fact that the 7 cameras are already in place and have been since April (I pass one on the A10 on the way to work) also the crime rate is far worse than they're making out, largely thought to be gangs coming up from London, vehicle crime and burglaries tend to be in batches of 2 or 3 in close vicinity (the estate I'm living on is well known to be affluent, and there's a few more as well)
That's why I'm always skint!
But I'm happy enough with the cameras if they save my laptop getting robbed from the house, my car getting broken into etc.
They'll catch few criminals with this, if we're honest - it'll be by chance because their tax has expired or something and they get caught with stuff - but, if they use the data well, a pattern could emerge - if not from individual registrations (surely criminals wouldn't be that stupid, to use the same car every time?) but from the timings, road in on etc.
And nice one to the Guardian for broadcasting it - still not worked out if that's good or bad for this sleepy little town ;-)
