Trying to negotiate with Virgin about changing advance tickets is very difficult

Almost impossible but somehow I managed get a deal after the Walsall away last minute postponement a couple of years ago.

We arrived back at Birmingham New St over two hours early for our train back to London and tried to negotiate with a lady guard from Virgin trains who appeared to have been trained in the Hitler Youth school of customer service about our tickets (Gemma was with me).

So we went back to the station looked at the ticket office and queued to tactically find get served by a middle aged woman with a wedding ring, as I though she might have kids and be sympathetic. I held out ?10 and asked how much it was to get the tickets changed, explained about the football and she authorised the train time change free of charge.

I had warned Gemma that if it was going badly on the ticket changing front she would need to start crying and I would stand on her foot very firmly so it hurt to start her off. Luckily this was not needed!
