FAO football book people ...
I'm reading 'The Ball is Round: A Global History of Football' by David Goldblatt at the moment. It's a massive tome - about a thousand pages - but if that doesn't put you off, there's an incredible range of beautifully written explorations of different national football cultures.
The parts on South American football are particularly enlightening if, like me, you've always been focused on Europe.
