he's probably right on that - and similarly if it came to a choice between a woman of child-bearing age and a man of the same age many would opt for the man to avoid the possibility of having to fork out for maternity pay

and that's exactly why this sort of legislation is needed - to ensure that everyone is treated equally - it's the attitudes that need to be changed and worked on - not the legislation
