If he'd fractured his skull

An CT or MRI would have shown a f**king great bloodclot around the injury either epidurally (Between skull and dura mater which encloses the brain) or sub-durally (Between dura mater and the brain itself - very very serious!).

Also, he most likely be throwing up and/or fainting.

I can't remember much of my human biology (I was a microbiologist), but that's about the size of it.

As an aside, usually if a player in a contact sport suffers a concussion, they are stood down for two weeks as a similar injury can be much more severe if it occurs again in the same time period. He will be seeing a neurosurgeon to evalutate the severity of the concussion and get clearance that it is safe for him to play on Tuesday. End of.
