Norwich City strikers Dean Ashton and Leon McKenzie were today en route to London for a double date in the capital with two medical specialists - one an ankle surgeon, the other a leading neurologist.

Ashton's appointment is likely to cause the biggest stir, but manager Nigel Worthington was at pains to stress that the 21-year-old's detailed medical examination was purely precautionary after his frightening clash of heads with Reading skipper Graeme Murty cast a long shadow over Saturday's 1-0 him defeat by the Royals.

?The boy's health comes first and foremost,? said Worthington. ?If he gets the all-clear today, then he'll play tomorrow. If the specialists say he should have a rest, then so be it.?

Ashton went through a normal warm-down session with the rest of his team-mates at Colney yesterday and showed no ill effects - suggesting that today's CT scan and X-ray was precautionary and no more.

Worthington did, however, reveal that once he saw Ashton's legs buckle beneath him as he groggily rose from the pitch his first instinct was to haul his star striker off.

He said: ?We were going to bring him off, but both the player himself and the medical people were happy for him to stay on.

?He was assessed again at half-time and again both he and the medical people were happy for him to continue.?

As for McKenzie, it now appears that his twisted ankle has actually sustained more damage than previously thought and he is likely to need surgery to cure the problem.

?Leon McKenzie had a scan last week after the swelling had gone down and it seems there was more damage than first thought and he will see a surgeon this morning to see if he needs more work and how long it's going to be.?

Otherwise City have a reasonably clean bill of health with Worthington confirming that Darren Huckerby would start tomorrow night's home clash with Hull. Whether he will.... [continues on about some s**t just to fill the page]
