I have a bit of a hobby rummaging around in RAF records and have a little website of my own. For specifics of what your grandfather was doing, you would probably need to consult the Form 541 (Detail of Work Carried Out) part of the ORBs. This will list individual pilots and aircraft on each operation (And crews, I think). You can find this at the National Archives under AIR 27/1655 - 1658. Also, places like the RAF Museum may well have photographs, diaries, etc. I'm not particularly familiar with the Bomber squadrons but there is quite a lot of stuff out there and many people are willing to share.
