We failed last year

because Worthie failed to recognise that pace is needed in central defence. Pace enables defenders to push up and fom a more coherent link between defence midfield and attack. Midfielders simply have less far to run both to support defence and attack.
This has been recognised by both Pardew and Jewell both of whom concentrated on strengthening their central defence . Also they have played football without fear and , for the reasons stated have been able to play attacking football without conceding too many goals. Norwich were relegated simply because they conceded too many goals. With defensive pairings of Fleming/Charlton; Fleming/Doherty and Fleming/ Shackell without real pace and consequently playing to deep this should have been realised by the management team and is in my view Worthie`s greater failure.
