Yup, mystery solved
Apparently she had confiscated the outboard motor from Tombs Jr because he was trying to connect it to a battery in the middle of a paddling pool. The outboard belongs to a rubber dinghy we've had for 4 years but not even taken it out of it's box. Long story...
