Yeah it wasn't a comparison. What got me was

Punishment instead of a solution in the case of the couple.

Instead of being on welfare, they want to earn money to survive. Not being able to afford childcare they leave their kid at home (not good of course!) to go to work to earn the money.

So what does the court do ? Fine them and make them take English lessons (i.e. leave them needing to earn more money) and then give them community service AND English lessons (i.e. give them more commitments whice they'll have to leave the kid at home to fulfill!).

Why don't they just give them a slapped wrist and help with child care ?
