If I was manager....
I would not offer new Contracts to: Eddy, Holt and Mullers.
Bentley will go back to Arsenal as his loan has now expired.
I would actually keep hold of McVeigh, as he would do a good job in Div 1, but if he genuinely wants to go, wouldn't worry either about that. The ball's in his court.
I don't want to pay up Helveg's final year salary (52 x?16k = ?832k) but would offer him a free transfer back to Denmark. If push came to shove, might have to offer him something like ?250k to leave now.
Would keep Jonson for his 2nd and final year - ok, his wages might be quite high (but not extortionate) but we paid good money for him and his style may suit the fizzy pop.
Francis can't be arsed anymore, so would offload him to the highest bidder, starting at no less than ?3m. You can't have players who don't wanna stay.
Speak to Greeno. If he wants to go and the right offer comes in, you need to be fair to the guy and let him go. He's had 4 great seasons with us and has earn't the right to remain in the Premier at this moment in time (the only player of which I can say that in our squad).
In defence, Charlton and Doc won't settle for fizzy pop reserves. Added to the fact that we need another CD, one who is dominant and a wee bit more physical than the current lot (WARD?), these 2 might be out of the door. I personally quite like Charlie and would do my best to hold onto him, but Drury won't let you down in fizzy pop so would be inclined to stick with him. Have to wait and see on those. Flem is under contract for 2 further yrs and no-one else will want to buy him. Yes, he has slowed up, but this was always gonna be a problem in the Premier - in the fizzy league it shouldn't be too much of a problem and I think we will still need his experience.
Up front, Ashton is only 21, still learning the game and has only been with us for 4 months after being extremely loyal to Crewe (he didn't even want to leave them, until he was virtually pushed out of the door and told to leave for his own good by Gradi). I would be telling Ashton that we will be aiming for an instant return to the Premier so no need for him to jump ship so soon in his career - if NCFC do not make an instant return next season, I would be fair to him and allow him to go should he wish in 2006. He would still only be 22 by then, so time is not an issue with Deano.
McKenzie will have to stay - the club gave him the chance to play in the Premier, 18 months after playing for Peterboro' so he deserves to repay Worthy's loyalty to him. Would not expect anyone to pay anywhere near ?2m for him, and that would be the least I would expect to receive, If I did intend to sell him.
Hucks has already confirmed he will stay, so our strike force will be pretty much the same.
If Svenny wants to return to Sweden then that's up to him. Need to see what his intensions are.
So thats a possibility of 11 players down this summer. Its gonna be a big over-hall of our squad with at least 7 new faces coming in. At a guess, I would anticipate us needing: CMx2, RW, CD, RB, GK as a minimum.
