But I think most of what Hitchens has to say is a criticism of Churchill, not the king. As far as I recall, the thing the king is alleged to have done wrong was to be an appeaser who welcomed Chamberlin back from Berlin with his "peace treaty". Now, there are plenty of people who were appeasers without being fascist sympathisers. They just couldn't face another war. So I suspect Hitchens is over-egging it.

(And I never trust a word he writes without checking it, anyway, he is such a polemicist.)
