Combination of many things.............. ..

I think it started before Lambert arrived..........

Gunn was out of his league as a manager but I think he brought in some decents signings plus he put in place the anti-loan feeling at the club which forced us to go out and look for hungry players from the lower levels.

The irony of the Gunn signings are that most of the signings he made from the lower leagues turned out to be pretty decent overall.

The signings from higher/different divisions didnt work out as well (Whaley, Wiigins, Theo ect)

Gunn also did not spend a lot of money to bring in those players, a squad that Lambert was able mostly to mold into a championship winning side.
Most of Lamberts LG1 signings were bench players.....

When Lambert arrived we still had some big probelms at the club, namely lack of fitness of the players but the quality was there once we had a good manager in charge.

The fact the board gave Gunn a chance but could see that we needed a new direction even after the 4-0 win shows it wasnt knee jerk.
