its an easy statement for him to make. Why would he put in a transfer request when:
a) he's been shifted about a lot in his career and is at the stage where he wants his family to be settled.
b) he knows perfectly well that there isn't a single team playing at a higher level (i.e. the Prem) where he would get a game, unless it was a desperate one (like Sunderland) doomed to relegation, which he is well aware from experience isn't much fun.
No-one in football ever wants to move when they know the team they are at is giving them a better deal than they could ever get anywhere else. He's a legend because of what he did in 2003/4, not because of cheap statements like this.
