I get xmas invitations from various friends every year, but I usually turn them down and spend xmas with foreign mates/girlfriend etc who won't be doing the family thing. Intruding on someone else's family occasion can be very uncomfortable, especially when the grumpy uncle who's had too much to drink starts being a c**t
