They were trying to take attention away from tiger shark attacks
It is a problem for snorkelers in the red sea. Tiger shark attacks are becoming relatively common so blame a different shark to deflect the heat from tigers. Fortunately no attacks on divers.
Moral of the story, don't snorkel, it's so gay that even the sharks are trying to stop it.
