Give the poor bugger a chance
I did something similar about 6 months ago (Heard the bang; never a good sign!) and I am only now just starting to train again. I tried to do a little bit of cricket over the summer and couldn't get above a careful shuffle without feeling it ping.
Obviously they have better medical facilities than I do, but calf/achillies injuries tend to take a long time to heal properly.
