A couple of random thoughts
Fox looked decent at the base of the diamond in the two pre-season game I saw (Dagenham & Stevenage), so no surprise to see him start there vs Watford. But at the risk of stating the bleedin? obvious the league is a little faster than pre-season and Fox looked a little lightweight there. The second Watford goal in particular where Nelson was drawn out from the back four and was turned, maybe Crofts would have shut that sort of situation down and got the ball.
Moving Crofts to the base of the diamond for the next game, Scunthorpe was a very good decision by Lambert, and Fox has not played much since. The team looked so much better at Scunthorpe. This been a huge positive.
Of course getting Korey back fit might have swayed the decision to move Crofts there.
As a comparison as regards a wake up call in 2001/02 we had a decent pre-season and then got battered 4-0 by Millwall on the first day of the season. That season turned out ok in the end, apart from the penalty shoot out loss.
And another comparison, Millwall were in the playoff that season and lost to Birmingham in the semi-final, and Watford have not started too shabbily either.
