Techy help

Hi all, Bought my father in law a dell laptop. Came with free mcafee anti virus for 15 months but after a month says he needs to buy. Have tried contacting dell with no response. he is very worried he will be left unprotected! I use AVG so have downloaded that in the meantime BUT can i leave both on his computer for the time being or delete mcaffee?
Any advice would be good
