England played well tonight because they were playing awful opposition
and from what I can tell on this re-run so far, the 4-4-2 is not rigid. So Gerrard is dropping deep and collecting the ball. Rooney is also dropping back and collecting the ball from midfield a bit like Forlan's role in Uruguay's WC campaign, There is pace on both wings. There is greater pressing on the opposition as well.
I'm afraid a lot of the experts, especially WSC, ZM and Paul Wilson were right. All however still backed Capello mind you to sort the issues out.
